What Now?
The greatly awaited part two of "What I've Been Doing" will come later. For now, I have some features lined up for everyone to enjoy.
Before that though I'd like to say that browsing around the photo section really shows that people are extremely biased towards dogs, cats and birds. Now I love the most latter myself, but some variety would be nice.
Second of all I'd like to say that you should browse occasionally too, there is some really awesome stuff being put up by barely known artists which really deserve better than they get. Which leads me to this, of course. Where possible I try and feature people who aren't all that well known, but sometimes I sprinkle in a few that I'm truly impressed with, regardless of their status in the community.
Features!
The format might be a little messy so bare with me:

I'm hardly surprised that this took "many hours". It's composed masterfully and really brings across a sense of Armageddon, or just plain power that makes you want to say "epic" out loud in a really dramatic voice. The colors and tones are great, and the lighting suits the picture. I can't help but also notice the little touches like the chameleon in the front, which shows the effort which has been put in to this. And only seven favorites? Are you serious?

I try to keep away from fractals, since it would be pretty easy for me to fill this column with them and be done with it, but if you wanted to see that you could just look in my favorites. This though is something special, a merge of different patterns composed in a concise and appropriate manner. The gradient fits well, if not pretty traditional. I'm a sucker for the royal plastic Julian look, and there are more than enough details in the image to keep you busy for a while. Couldn't have asked for much more here.

Back in the day, when the :icon____plz: meme was COOL (which it isn't now) ohnoes used to be a favorite of mine. But anyway, this drawing along with the others in the series both impress me from a technical point of view, and gave me a good laugh as well. The shading and detail is excellent and refined, correct to the lighting and flows with the face well. The concept itself is vaguely humorous, and if it made me laugh, then it is obviously executed effectively. Now to press the admins for those hyper-realistic emotions...

I like this style of abstract, and I'm not sure why. It seems like a very modern thing, the "clean" look popping up in recent years. This picture really grabs my attention and brings across a powerful and uplifting aura, which is suggested by the title. The composition is simple and very effective, something which a lot of artists seem to forget how to do. It still manages to be rich, full of life, and I like it a lot. It is definitely a contrast to the rest of my red/gold/dark orientated favorites.

An otherwise simple depiction made awesome by the style and detail put into it. The colors used are soft and easy on the eyes, but bold enough to grab your attention at their height. I noticed the light shadings of other colors used in things like the ice, showing how the morning sun reflects in different colors, giving the image that extra layer of depth. The camera angle is somewhat dramatic, and everything looks to scale. It's simple on the surface yet amazingly deep when you look, and I like that. And zero favorites... so heartless you are dA.
And you five should considering yourselves lucky, since it took me 1hr 30m to write this journal and that has told me one thing: I am never writing detailed commentary again-*shot*
